I don’t remember ever feeling this tired. Traveling across the country takes it out of you. All I wanted was a bed.
As soon as I swung the door open, the dog burst out of the house, jumping up, overjoyed for my return. I said hello, but pushed her down and into the house, me following.
Sighing, I pulled my suitcase into the bedroom. The bed taunted me. It knew I couldn’t lay down until I had finished doing the “getting home ritual” of unpacking and taking care of the dog. Another sigh. I started unpacking.
The beagle was being a real nuisance, crawling under the bed, hopping on the bed, licking my face. I decided I’d had enough when she finally jumped up and hit me in my soft spot.
“Out!” She sped out of the room and I angrily kicked the door, mostly closing it. I looked back at my bed voraciously, and then at my suitcase.
“Screw it.” and I threw myself on the bed.
I awoke to a nightmare. All over the ground were tatters of cloth. In the corner, my dog started to wag its tail. (191)
